Curator

Madge Yao is a Toronto-based independent curator originally from Taiwan. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Shih-Hsin University, Madge approaches her curatorial practice with journalistic attentiveness to subtle shifts, undertones, and minority narratives. She is drawn to community-driven topics and the butterfly effects of individual stories that reshape social landscapes. Rooted in the Latin curare, “to take care of,” Madge’s curatorial approach centres acts of care. Guided by the belief that conversations strengthen communities, Madge brings together artwork as an act of community healing and story revealing.

  • Working with Madge has been an absolute pleasure. She is passionate in her work, full of creative ideas, and is solution-oriented. She has a wide set of skills and experiences and her affable personality would make her a great addition to any team. Her contributions to the film festival’s marketing initiatives were invaluable. If given the chance, I would work with Madge again in a heartbeat.

  • In my former role as Artistic Director of Walnut Studios, I was Madge’s supervisor during her internship with Humber College. Following her placement with us we hired her to work on many contemporary art projects and art education initiatives. Through these experiences I have gotten to know Madge well and can thoroughly vouch for her commitment to art, her ability to take initiative, and her exceptional administrative abilities.
